Location: New York
Position Overview
Teaching Artist (Recurring Part-Time) at Disney Theatrical Group’s Education & Audience Engagement team.
Responsibilities- Teach school staff the artistic roles of musical production (Director, Choreographer, Music Director, or Stage Manager) by modeling, team‑teaching, and coaching with public elementary and middle school students through the Disney Musicals in Schools program.
- Guide educators on at least two of these roles, with required capacity to teach music or dance.
- Team‑teach musical theater workshops using a provided curriculum based on Broadway shows for groups of all ages from around the world.
- Lead workshops such as Movement & Music, Spotlight on Singing, Spotlight on Dancing, Business of Show Business, and the Art of Puppetry.
- Facilitate post‑show Q&A sessions (talkbacks) for audience members of The Lion King, Aladdin, and future Disney on Broadway shows.
- Collaborate with Education & Audience Engagement staff and fellow TAs to develop curriculum and educational resources for a global audience.
- Support audience‑engagement events and activations throughout the city.
- Conduct professional development workshops for classroom teachers and school administrators.
- Participate in ongoing professional development with the Teaching Artist ensemble.
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Teaching Artist or Classroom Teacher in NYC public schools or another large school system.
- Demonstrated musical theater skills in choreography, directing, music direction, or stage management with students or adults.
- Multi‑disciplinary artistic background with expertise in music directing and/or choreography.
- Experience working with diverse populations and age groups.
- Strong classroom management skills.
- Willingness to travel to schools across NYC, including all boroughs, and to work weekdays, occasional nights, and weekends.
- Excellent collaborative and team‑teaching abilities.
- Strong time‑management skills and dedication to established commitments.
- Exceptional customer service skills and commitment to upholding the Disney brand with integrity.
- Additional 3+ years of experience as an expert in a specific artistic discipline.
- Experience on the production team of a musical with children or adults.
- Undergraduate or advanced degree in Theatre, Music, Dance, Education, Educational Theatre, Applied Theatre, or a related field.
- Experience working with students with disabilities.
- Experience working with English Language Learners.
- Ability to converse in languages other than English.
Pay rate: $42.43 to $90.17 per hour, depending on geographic region, knowledge, skills, and experience. Select benefits may be provided, including medical, financial, and other benefits.
