Responsibilities
  • Assists the Director in developing and implementing adult orientation sessions.
  • Attends staff meetings, monthly parent meetings, annual planning retreat, annual staff planning
  • retreat, and other special meetings
  • Submits progress reports and other records during the year, as requested by the Director.
  • Notifies the Director, immediately, of personal difficulties related to children, parents and staff
  • Communicates and cooperates with the Director in implementing program changes
  • Prepares an environment that ensures that furnishings and materials are complete and developmentally appropriate for the age group of children in the classroom.
  • Works with the assistant teacher to always ensure the safety and well-being of the children, make sure that children as never left unattended
  • Utilizes positive phrasing of directives for children
  • Works with individual and small groups of children and prepares circle time lessons
  • Sets aside time to give the assistant the opportunity to share observations and ask questions
  • Supervises the implementation of curriculum implementation
  • Supervises the assistant or substitute who deals with children in the group to ensure effective implementation of indoor and outdoor activities

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood education or related field of study approved the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene required;
    Master degree preferred
  • Minimum two (2) years relevant experience of teaching in a pre-school program for you young children (ages 2- 5 years old)
  • Valid certification issued by the State Education Department
  • Knowledge of best practices in Early Childhood Education
  • Knowledge of classroom management and positive behavior guidance
  • Knowledge of developmental milestones and early Childhood Education Pedagogy
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety Practices and Guidelines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - oral, written, and listening
  • Technology
    -savvy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Team, Zoom) ability to navigate diverse online assessment tools
  • Bilingual a plus
