Belfast Central School Long-Term Substitute Preschool Teacher
The position of teacher at Belfast Central School is designed for a person with a Bachelor's Degree and/or Master's Degree who is certified by the State of New York in the field of elementary education. Performance responsibilities include:
1. Developing and implementing the day-to-day educational program for preschool children at Belfast Central School. Facilitate the physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and reflective development of children at Belfast Central School. Plan and implement curriculum for children consistent with developmentally appropriate educational practices as articulated by the Belfast Central School mission and philosophy and the New York State Department of Education Learning Standards.
Work collaboratively with other teachers, families, community members, and administrators to develop and implement projects. Use ongoing assessment to monitor children's growth, development, strengths, and needs. Be accountable for fostering students' academic progress. Develop long-term relationships with children and their families by serving as the primary mentor for each child in their group.
2. Communicating with preschool students' families of Belfast Central School. Formally and informally interact with parents on a frequent and regular basis to provide information on their child's progress and to provide support as needed. Integrate parents' contribution to the curriculum as appropriate. Serve as a resource person to parents. Conduct periodic parent/teacher conferences so that adults can share information about children.
Prepare written narrative reports for this purpose. Attend Open Houses.
3. Participating in the governance and evaluation of Belfast Central School. Attend and participate in staff meetings to discuss various aspects of the curriculum. Contribute to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of Belfast Central School. Administer state-mandated assessments.
4. Being aware of and contributing to program support and record-keeping requirements. Maintain records of child attendance, health and accidents, and report to the administrators as necessary. Show flexibility in meeting the Belfast Central School's scheduling and emergency needs. Be responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of the classroom. Communicate maintenance and repair needs to the appropriate parties.
5. Participating in ongoing personal and professional development. Conduct ongoing self-evaluation to identify areas for continual improvement. Participate in annual personal and professional review to set goals for the next year. Participate in professional development activities.
