Position Summary

The Institute of Culinary Education, New York City Campus, is seeking a part-time Recreational Chef Instructor. The chef will be responsible for leading the hands‑on recreational cooking classes in conformity with ICE proprietary class lessons. The chef will be responsible for ensuring that the highest quality food service and experience for clients are consistently delivered.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach recreational classes and special events
  • Demonstrate techniques and concepts in conformity with ICE lesson plans
  • Deliver clear, concise and organized lectures
  • Aid student/guest performance through observation and interaction
  • Maintain a positive, focused learning environment during class
  • Assure that classes are conducted in a manner that complies with principles of food safety, sanitation and beverage management
  • Preparation, set‑up and breakdown of class ingredients and equipment
Experience & Educational Requirements
  • Culinary diploma or some form of formal Culinary Education
  • Minimum of 7 years culinary experience
  • Prior teaching experience preferred
  • Culinary and pastry background preferred
  • Flexible schedule (weekends and evenings) to accommodate ICE class and event schedules
  • Must possess a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail
  • Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills required
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal; strong presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interact in a collaborative manner with other departments and teams
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft suite of products including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel
Benefits
  • Pay: $160.00 per 3- to 5-hour Recreational Class / $220.00 per Special Event
  • Up-to $650.00 per year reimbursement program for any combination of Tuition Assistance, Dues in Culinary and/or professional organizations, Subscriptions to professional and culinary magazines or purchase of related books.
