Student Success and Veterans Services Advisor

The Student Success and Veterans Services Advisor provides purposeful guidance to students while empowering them to explore their academic and career identities, achieve their desired credential, and realize their career goals and aspirations. The Advisor serves as the primary point of contact for both their assigned school, along with student veterans and military-affiliated students and works closely with members of their assigned School and the Student Success Team to promote student success, retention, and completion.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with Deans and the Student Success Team to promote retention and completion of all enrolled students
  • Provide academic, career, and transfer advising to an assigned caseload of students
  • Assist students with resumes, cover letters, interviewing, and professional networking skills
  • Assist with all academic, career, and transfer activities for the assigned School
  • Facilitate academic intervention strategies for vulnerable or at-risk students
  • Educate students on support services, financial literacy, and college policies/procedures
  • Educate students about degree requirements and academic and career pathways
  • Engage students in supportive, open, collaborative relationships that promote success
  • Support institutional retention initiatives by conducting targeted outreach, identifying barriers to persistence, and implementing student success strategies
  • Monitor student progress and engagement to inform retention-focused interventions in collaboration with campus partners

Veterans Services Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary liaison for student veterans and military-affiliated students
  • Provide advising, support, and referral services tailored to the needs of veterans and their dependents
  • Coordinate enrollment certifications and maintain compliance with federal and New York State veterans' benefits regulations
  • Maintain current knowledge of VA policies and procedures and support School Certifying Official functions as appropriate
  • Monitor and report changes in student veteran enrollment status to appropriate agencies
  • Develop and support workshops, orientation programs, and outreach efforts for student veterans
  • Connect student veterans to campus resources and external services to support academic success and transition
  • Build and maintain partnerships with local, state, and federal organizations to support recruitment, transition, and retention of student veterans
  • Collaborate with Admissions and other campus offices to recruit and retain student veterans
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Counseling, Higher Education, Student Affairs, Psychology, Social Work, Education, Human Services, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Experience: Two (2) to four (4) years of experience providing advising, counseling, case management, student support, or related services in higher education, military, veteran services, or a comparable student-focused environment. is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree. Experience working with veteran or military-affiliated student populations. Familiarity with VA education benefits and certification processes. Community college experience

Starting Salary: $67,003 - $71,000
