Associate Dean of Studies

Position Overview The Associate Dean of Studies serves as the sophomore class dean, advises transfer students, and oversees the College's community college partnerships. The Associate Dean advises students on academic planning and progression, supports student success initiatives, and manages the academic status process. The Associate Dean collaborates closely with faculty advisors and other colleagues to support students of concern and to identify high-achieving students who may be eligible for fellowships and other academic grants and awards.

Essential Functions Serve as the Class Dean for sophomores, providing academic advising, coordinating support with faculty and other campus partners, and addressing students' progress and engagement. Oversee the academic transition process and onboarding for new transfer students. Work with community college partners and supporting community college students' integration into the Sarah Lawrence college environment. Coordinate the academic status review process, ensuring accurate tracking, communication, and intervention for students facing academic challenges.

Act as the primary point of contact for students applying for the Davis Projects for Peace summer grant, advising on proposal development and submission. Support students in their senior theses, advising on project scope, resources, and alignment with academic goals. Represent the Dean of Studies Office on institutional committees, such as the Committee on Student Work and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, contributing to policies and program development.

Assist with supervising Graduate Assistants and coordinating projects within the Dean of Studies Office as directed by the Dean of Studies. Partner with the Learning Commons (academic resource center) to support students' academic progress. Collaborate with campus partners such as the Registrar, Health and Wellness, Access & Disability Services, the Learning Commons, and Residential Life to support academic and personal development programs.

Support the Dean of Studies Office's priorities through special projects and initiatives that advance student success and institutional goals. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Required Qualifications Master's degree in a relevant field such as Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or a related discipline. A minimum of 5 years of experience in academic advising or student affairs, with experience in a higher education setting. Proven experience in managing programs and student success initiatives. Strong understanding of academic policies, advising practices, and familiarity with academic and behavioral interventions.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate with faculty, students, and administrative staff. Primarily sedentary, involving extended periods of sitting and significant computer use. Frequent verbal and written communication required. Capacity to organize and synthesize detailed information. Occasional walking/standing required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.

Preferred Qualifications PhD/EdD or other relevant terminal degree Experience with DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) practices in an academic setting. Experience working with community college transfer students and knowledge of community college partnerships. Experience working with a student information system to track student academic progress and maintain advising records.
