Program OverviewEducation and Employment Services is an 8.2-million-dollar division serving about 9000 people each year through a continuum of services from Early Childhood Education through Adult Workforce programs designed to assist individuals in obtaining the skills necessary for lifetime self-sufficiency. Education Services include an Early Learn Program, After-School Programs (6 sites), 4 Day Camps, Youth Recreation, High School Initiatives including 2 Community Schools, and our Expanded Horizons College Success Program.
Programming takes place within 3 community center sites and multiple school-based programs. Employment Services include walk-in employment services, employment services for a public housing population, ESL job readiness training, and employment services for youth including SYEP and Young Adult Internship and Adult Literacy Programs.
The College Success Coordinator supports the Expanded Horizons College Success Program by providing individualized academic, career, and financial aid guidance to first-generation and historically underserved college students. This role is responsible for helping students successfully transition to, persist through, and graduate from college by delivering comprehensive coaching, coordinating workshops and career development opportunities, and connecting students with campus and community resources.
The College Success Coordinator builds strong relationships with students, higher education institutions, and community partners while tracking student progress, supporting scholarship administration, and contributing to program outcomes and reporting. Working collaboratively with the Expanded Horizons team, this position plays a key role in advancing educational equity and empowering young adults to achieve long-term academic, career, and personal success.
- Collaborate in developing and implementing curricula for workshops focused on topics relevant to first-generation college students transitioning to college.
- Coordinate and implement career events for college students.
- Participate in the planning and execution of the annual Expanded Horizons Scholarship Ceremony.
- Support with the coordination, management and dissemination of the student scholarships.
- Support in the development of a college success and career programming strategy.
- Co-lead the coordination and/or facilitation of transition workshops.
- Build strong and authentic relationships with students attending various post-secondary institutions to provide them with personalized guidance and coaching on academic and non‑academic issues that may prevent them from persisting through college.
- Conduct face-to-face or virtual meetings with college students at least once per semester.
- Ability to advise Expanded Horizons college students through all aspects of the financial aid process.
- Research and share information on scholarships, internships and networking opportunities.
- Travel monthly to CUNY colleges and quarterly to various northeast cities/regions to meet with Expanded Horizons college students.
