Part Time Childhood Education Instructor General Description
SUNY Niagara has a need for a part‑time instructor to teach childhood education courses within the Humanities & Social Services division. This position will be responsible for teaching and advising students throughout the academic year who are enrolled in the Childhood Education program. PT instructors will also attend meetings as requested.
Class Modalities and LocationsClasses are typically three lecture hours per week and may be delivered in many formats: face‑to‑face, face‑to‑face enhanced with Zoom, asynchronous online, blended synchronous on Zoom, hyflex (face‑to‑face, synchronous Zoom, and asynchronous online), and hybrid (in‑person and online). All modalities require the instructor to be available to report to campus in person when needed. The courses are held on the main campus in Sanborn, NY, and at the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute (NFCI) in Niagara Falls, NY.
CompensationRemuneration for this position is: $1,008 per lecture hour / $903 per lab hour.
Typical Work Activities- Teach Childhood Education courses such as Introduction to Careers in Teaching, Introduction to Elementary Education, Introduction to Contemporary Education, and Introduction to Pre‑service Educators.
- Help arrange field placements.
- Attend and participate in meetings as necessary.
- Navigate relationships with diverse populations.
- Speak in front of groups of people.
- Actively involve and engage students in their own learning.
- Communicate effectively with students, co‑workers, supervisors and the campus and external community.
- Develop, prepare, and present information.
- Operate computers.
- Perform the physical duties of the position.
- Master’s Degree in Education or a related field.
- PhD, ED, or ABD in Education.
- Two years of previous elementary/childhood teaching experience.
- Experience teaching in a college, particularly a community college.
- NYS Certification in grades 1–6 and/or K–2, or similar certification.
NYS Certification in grades 1–6 and/or K–2 or similar certification preferred.
