Part Time Music Instructor - Foundations of Music Theory

Position Summary:

SUNY Niagara seeks a part‑time Music Instructor to teach the Foundations of Music Theory course, an introductory class covering melodic and rhythmic notation, clefs, scales, key signatures, rhythm principles, and chord symbols. The course is designed for non‑music majors or students lacking prior music experience. The instructor will deliver in‑person classes on the Sanborn campus.

Remuneration: $1,008 per lecture hour; $903 per lab hour.

Responsibilities
  • Teach the Foundations of Music Theory course on campus.
  • Track attendance and report student learning outcomes at semester end.
  • Report grades at the conclusion of the semester.
Essential Functions
  • Work with and teach a diverse student population.
  • Speak in front of groups, communicate with students, co‑workers, supervisors.
  • Develop, prepare, and present instructional materials.
  • Operate computers and adhere to ADA provisions.
Qualifications
  • Three years of experience teaching at high school or college level.
  • Master’s Degree in Music or related field (desired).
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
  • Experience with Brightspace learning management system (desired).
