General DescriptionThe School of Music has a need for a part-time Music Instructor for the Conducting course. The course is taught in person on the Sanborn, NY campus. The objective is to introduce students to the basics of conducting proficiency, terminology, and score study. Topics include conducting technique, posture, preparatory gestures, the ictus, eye contact, meters, releases, fermatas, styles, dynamics, hand autonomy, cues, entrances, baton technique, repertoire, and rehearsal procedure.
Students will have opportunities to conduct in class, in rehearsal, and in performance venues, as well as to attend local performances.
- Teach course on campus.
- Track attendance as needed.
- Report on student learning outcomes at the end of the semester.
- Report grades at the conclusion of the semester.
Ability to work with and teach a diverse student population; speak in front of groups; effectively communicate with students, co‑workers, supervisors, and the campus community; develop, prepare, and present information; operate computers; physically perform the duties of the position; and adjust teaching to meet Americans with Disabilities Act provisions.
Required Qualifications- Three years of experience teaching at a high school or college level.
- Master’s Degree in Music or related field.
- Experience using Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word).
- Experience with the Brightspace learning management system.
