Theater and Songwriting Teaching Artist Position, Part-Time Hourly

About New York City Children’s Theater:

New York City Children’s Theater inspires young people’s imaginations and supports

social and emotional growth through original theatrical experiences on stage, in schools,

and in our community. We reach children and their communities with a wide range of

programming, including full-scale productions, small touring shows, interactive

workshops and in‑school residencies, and engage with them in traditional theater

spaces, school auditoriums, classrooms and cultural venues in their neighborhoods. We

demonstrate that engaging young people in the arts has a positive impact on their

cognitive, emotional and social development, and furthers a lifelong appreciation of the

arts.

New York City Children’s Theater is currently hiring experienced Theatre

and/or Songwriting Teaching Artists with classroom or community center

experience (Pre-k - 5 grade).

We are hoping you can say “yes” to all or most of the following:

You are a multidisciplinary artist experienced in teaching dance,

puppetry, theater or songwriting in a classroom or community setting

specifically with 3K through 5th grade students.

You have experience working with multilingual students

You have experience working with students with disabilities

You have a dynamic presence in the classroom and can engage students

and inspire them to challenge themselves creatively.

You are a confident leader in the classroom and understand how to

cater to different learning styles.

You are dedicated to improving your craft through professional

development, one‑on‑one lesson planning, reflection and feedback

sessions.

You are able and willing to develop partnerships with teachers and school

communities.

You are kind and can foster joy in your classroom.

You are able to work and collaborate in ensemble groups to create

You are able to memorize scripts for interactive theater-based workshops.

You have experience in songwriting with children and leading activities with

an instrument.

You play guitar or ukulele, keyboard, or any mobile instrument that

can travel to schools or community centers.

You are an artist and want to share your artform with the young people you

work with.

More about what NYCCT is looking for:
  • This is a part-time employee (W-2) position and schedule will fluctuate
  • throughout the season.
  • We are looking to hire people specifically with daytime and after school
  • availability.
  • We are looking to hire people who either reside in or are comfortable
  • traveling to the Bronx, Staten Island, outer parts of Brooklyn, and Queens.
  • DOE Fingerprinted preferred but not required to apply
  • Bilingual teaching artists that feel confident in facilitating in both English
  • and their home language.
