Training Specialist
This role focuses on designing, developing, and delivering high-quality, military-compliant technical training for Australian military and civil customers as part of the INTAS program. The Training Specialist uses a strong technical background in air traffic control or surveillance systems to create comprehensive training materials, manage courseware updates, and coordinate multi-component training projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge training programs for advanced technology systems while collaborating closely with subject-matter experts and stakeholders.
Working Setting:
Hybrid to start (need to be onsite in Syracuse, NY a couple of times a week during the training process), after that, can work fully remote with occasional onsite visits.)
Responsibilities
- Design and develop military-compliant training materials, including instructor guides, student manuals, job aids, and other content that satisfy applicable military standards and defined learning objectives.
- Update and maintain instructor guides, student manuals, job aids, and related training documentation to ensure alignment with evolving military and technical requirements.
- Partner with subject-matter experts and stakeholders to assess training needs, define learning outcomes, and tailor training solutions for specific platforms, systems, and user groups.
- Maintain and revise courseware to reflect new functionality, components, and system changes, ensuring all training content remains accurate, current, and compliant.
- Implement version control and configuration management practices to manage updates and ensure consistent, traceable training documentation.
- Plan, coordinate, and deliver multi-component training projects by developing detailed schedules, resource plans, and milestones, and by managing cross-functional tasks to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.
- Conduct iterative review cycles for training materials by organizing review sessions, collecting and analyzing feedback from reviewers, and refining content based on findings.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical and instructional issues that arise during training development and review phases, escalating risks as appropriate and implementing corrective actions to protect schedule and quality.
- Apply technical writing best practices to create clear, concise, and user-focused training content, including user guides, HTML-based materials, and other documentation formats.
- Use content management tools and processes to organize, store, and maintain training materials and related documentation.
- Ensure all training materials and documentation meet relevant compliance requirements, including government and aviation-related standards where applicable.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience in designing and developing military-compliant training materials and documentation.
- Strong technical background in air traffic control or surveillance systems, or closely related technical domains.
- Hands-on experience with training development and training instruction in complex technology-based environments.
- Strong skills in Adobe PDF tools for preparing, formatting, and finalizing training materials and documentation.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word for creating and editing detailed training documents and manuals.
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint for developing engaging training presentations and visual materials.
- Demonstrated technical writing experience, including creation of user guides and other instructional content.
- Experience with document control practices, including version control and configuration management.
- Familiarity with compliance-driven environments, such as FAA or other government training requirements.
- Experience with HTML template writing and content development for web-based or digital training materials.
- Ability to coordinate and manage multi-component training projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Strong collaboration skills for working closely with subject-matter experts and stakeholders.
- Education and experience meeting one of the following: a BA/BS degree in engineering, instructional design, or a related field with at least 5 years of relevant experience; an MA/MS degree in engineering, instructional design, or a related field with at least 3 years of relevant experience; or at least 8 years of direct experience in military, aerospace, or complex technology-based training systems.
