School Guidance Counselor

Minimum qualifications:

New York certification for school counselor Ability to establish good rapport with students, staff and community Ability to work with students

Major duties:
The school guidance counselor, as a cooperating member of the pupil personnel team specifically:

• Is responsible for organizing units of instruction for career education
• Consults with parents, school personnel and representatives of community agencies in regard to the needs of the students
• Is able to instruct student groups in values clarification, careers and self-awareness
• Develops resources on careers for student use
• Recommends students to other pupil personnel services or community
• Provides individual and group counseling on scheduling, preparation and career direction
• Administers standardized tests and interprets these results for parents, teachers and students and analyzes these results for the professional staff
• Participates in student extra-curricular activities
• Works with the Committee on Special Education for assigned students
• Other duties as prescribed by the building principal, which assigned.
