Guidance Counselor
Anticipated minimum starting salary: $48,580
Position purpose:
This position will provide counseling, assessment, classroom support, mental health consultation, family and community outreach for students receiving supportive services under the general supervision of the Director of Pupil Services & Instruction. This position requires leadership, advocacy and collaboration to promote student success, provide preventive services and respond to student needs through the implementation of a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and person/social development for all students.
This position would assist in the enrollment process, ensure student engagement and advise students on progress and future planning.
General duties/responsibilities:
- Support students emotional, behavioral, and management needs
- Conduct group and individual counseling sessions with students
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and providing student information to prospective colleges and employers, as required by district procedures and applicable laws
- Member of Crisis Intervention Team
- Collaborate with other school and community professionals
- Support students in developing and implementing career and academic goals
- Provide information sessions on topics such as bullying, drugs, divorce, and peer pressure
- Gather and disseminate information relating to educational and career planning
- Monitor student attendance and grades
- Collaborate with teachers regarding students grades, attendance and behavioral data
- Help students to understand and deal with social, behavioral and personal problems
- Provide the tools to enhance students personal, social and academic growth
- Hold conflict resolution sessions
- Conducts assessments, testing and diagnostic examinations of students for the purpose of identifying learning or social interaction issues, and recommending courses of action or corrective procedures to overcome issues and maximize learning
Qualifications:
- Certification as School Counselor AND License as a Master or Clinical Social Worker
- Successful prior experience as a School Counselor and/or School Social Worker preferred
