$64,469.94 to $82,839.39

Master’s degree in school counseling AND current ISBE Professional Educator License (PEL) with a School Counseling Endorsement.

Primary Function

As a vital member of the school’s educational leadership team, professional school counselors provide comprehensive, developmental support within the academic, personal/social, and career domains to ensure today’s students become productive, well‑adjusted adults of tomorrow. School counselors are uniquely trained professional educators with a mental‑health perspective who understand and respond to the challenges presented by today’s diverse student population. They provide proactive leadership to engage all stakeholders in delivering programs and services that help all students achieve success in school.

Job Responsibilities
  • Create, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the CPS REACH Framework and the National Model for School Counseling Programs.
  • Conduct annual needs assessments and data reviews to determine and prioritize student needs, establishing targeted program goals aligned with school wide objectives.
  • Implement the core curriculum by designing, conducting, and co‑teaching learning activities in classrooms, large groups, and school wide settings based on academic, career, postsecondary, and social/emotional needs.
  • Provide individual student planning activities in collaboration with students, staff, and families, creating academic plans that facilitate diploma attainment and postsecondary options.
  • Offer responsive services to address barriers to academic achievement, including small groups, goal‑oriented counseling sessions, conference facilitation, and collaboration with teachers, families, and external partners.
  • Deliver indirect student support by referring students/families to district and community resources, sharing achievement strategies with parents and educators, advocating for student development, and partnering on school and community initiatives.
  • Provide system support by coordinating activities that support the effective operation of the school, such as creating evidence‑based implementation plans, data monitoring, protecting planning time, and coordinating professional development.
  • Participate in regular professional development, staying current with evidence‑based practices through district, state, and national opportunities, associations, journals, workshops, and coursework.
