The Hebrew Educational Society, a thriving multi-service, comprehensive community center located in southeast Brooklyn, provides a diverse array of programs and services within a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment that is inclusive of people of all ages and ability levels. Programs include Early Childhood, After School, Camps, Athletic and Aquatic Activities, Older Adults & People with disabilities.
Our Early Childhood Center currently offers full-day, year-round programming for children ages 3-5 including an NYC Early Learn program, Pre-K for All, extended day services, and Summer Camp.
Responsibilities of an Assistant Teacher shall include but not be limited to:
- Experienced and/or Degree in Education preferred with this age group
- Assisting in the implementation of the daily program such as with curriculum development, planning and preparing the learning environment (centers) with the lead teacher, newsletter (take pictures), and preparation of classroom activities.
- Supervision of children in the classroom, playground, breakfast, restroom, and gym areas.
- Participation in Early Childhood and center-wide Programs Ex:
Pajama Night, Open House, Street Fair, Parent’s Night Out, Curriculum Night, etc. - Classroom preparation (ex: getting the classroom ready for breakfast as well as lunch and snack)
- Setup of the classroom with the lead teacher before students start in September
- Cleaning of classroom materials, mats, and equipment on a daily/weekly basis
- Attend monthly staff meetings as well as staff development training throughout the year in accordance with DOH/DOE/ACS guidelines
- Maintain confidentiality about our children, their families, and other employees
- Keep records of meal service/attendance/weekly classroom safety checklist
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor/ teacher (assist in kitchen cleanup, homework preparation, check students' cubbies, and etc.)
- Assist in small group activities of 3 or 4 children.
- Assist with updating the monthly bulletin board.
- Communicate with your teacher any issues or concerns
- Be a team player
Schedule:
- 10-month schedule (possible summertime hours)
- Monday
- Friday - 3:00PM - 6:00PM or 12:30PM - 6:00PM (depending on the department needs)
Pay: $17.00 per hour
