English Teacher
Shaker High School is seeking an innovative, student-centered English teacher who is passionate about helping students become thoughtful readers, skilled writers, effective communicators, and critical thinkers. We are looking for an educator who values strong relationships, high expectations, and collaboration and who is excited to contribute to a department committed to excellence in literacy instruction. At Shaker High School, English teachers engage students through rich literature, authentic writing experiences, inquiry-based learning, and meaningful discussion.

Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned English Language Arts instruction.
- Create an inclusive classroom environment where every student feels valued, challenged, and supported.
- Teach literature, writing, speaking, listening, language, and research skills using a variety of instructional approaches.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including English Language Learners and students with disabilities.
- Use assessment data to monitor student growth and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Provide timely, meaningful feedback that supports student learning and growth.
- Collaborate with colleagues in Professional Learning Communities to analyze student work, develop curriculum, and improve instructional practice.
- Integrate technology thoughtfully to enhance learning and student engagement.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, counselors, and colleagues.
- Contribute positively to the school community through participation in department initiatives and school activities.
Salary range $56,515-$115,997
* Salary based on education and experience
Qualifications
Required:
Valid New York State certification in English Language Arts (Grades 7-12). Strong knowledge of New York State Learning Standards and secondary literacy instruction. Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching.
Preferred:
Experience teaching middle school and/or high school English. Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs. Knowledge of evidence-based literacy practices. Experience integrating instructional technology and digital learning tools.
