Physical Education Teacher

- Our incoming physical education teacher has responsibility to:
- Lead weekly sports and fitness classes across all grades (K-8), working with grade-specific teachers in the delivery of the program for the younger students and running programming independently for groups of 20 to 30 students in the older grades
- Coordinate and coach a coed, middle school cross-country team (fall) and track team (spring)
- Coordinate our partnerships with outside organizations for the delivery of programming in sports such as tennis, fencing, or soccer
- Foster an environment where students are encouraged to take risks, solve problems, develop critical thinking skills, and build habits for lifelong healthy living.
- Differentiate instruction to meet a range of abilities from students who are already competitive athletes to those who are just being introduced to many of the activities
- Use Fitness Gram to measure student progress and provide meaningful feedback to students and their families.
- Participating actively in the school community, including attending faculty meetings, and school events, and contributing to extracurricular activities.
- BA/BS degree in relevant field is preferred but not required
- At least three years of relevant experience, ideally in a K-8 school environment.
- Strong communication, organizational, and group management skills.
- Harlem Academy offers professional development opportunities, benefits, 10 weeks of paid vacation, and salary from $50,000 to $70,000 based on experience and demonstrated skills.
