SummaryFriends Academy seeks an energetic collaborative educator, who is current with best practices within secondary school athletics and K-12 physical education, with a focus on 21st-century learning skills. An undergraduate degree is required. Successful experience teaching physical education, experience with early learners and coaching at the secondary level is needed. Successful candidates must have strong organizational, time management skills, and be able to supervise students in and out of the classroom.
We are looking for someone who is student-centered and excited to work collaboratively with students, colleagues, and the community.
Our athletic teams compete with great success in Section VIII. Though we are one of the smallest schools in the league – and the only independent school – we've fielded championship teams in all of our sports. We currently have 20 Varsity Sports and ten middle school sports offered.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Dynamic, hands-on Coach/Teacher who emphasizes problem-solving while building relationships with students.
- Commitment to professional development and athletics curriculum development
- Motivates students through age-appropriate student physical fitness.
- The physical education teacher will, in accordance with each individual student’s ability, develop motor skills, strength, agility, poise, and coordination
- Demonstrates knowledge of grade-level physical education activities including individual, dual and/or team sports to promote physical activity and develop motor skills, physical development, and proper exercise through physical fitness
- Develops innovative instructional methodologies that are reflective of research and best practices for students to engage in physical education and takes all precautions to provide for the health and safety of the students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities
- Teaches Four sections of physical education and advisor to Upper School students
- Coach middle school sports and at least two varsity sports
- Performs other duties as assigned that are appropriate for the position, and supports and contributes to the life of the school
Experience coaching high school sports is preferred, specifically the sport of Baseball and Football.
Bachelor's Degree Required- Preferred Physical Education Degree

SalaryThe expected hourly pay range is $73,000-$80,000 per year. The actual compensation will be based on the candidates’ relevant and transferable years of service, and other factors, which include internal peer equity, the market and other organizational considerations. The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
