Position: Lower School Spanish Teacher Leave Replacement (1-Year Position)
Location: New York

Salary Range: $81,000 - $178,000. The position on the scale will be based on years of teaching experience and education.

Exemption Status: Exempt

The Dalton School, a progressive K-12 gender-inclusive school in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, is consistently recognized as one of the preeminent independent day schools in the nation. We are seeking a full-time Elementary (Third Grade) Spanish teacher starting September 2026. Spanish at Dalton is taught through the three modes of communication (interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational), with attention to the cultural products, practices, and perspectives of the Spanish-speaking world. We are committed to ongoing curricular and pedagogical anti‑racist work, and we seek a candidate who shares that commitment and who can contribute to our efforts.

Our ideal candidate has K‑5 language teaching experience and native‑like proficiency in Spanish. Language teaching/methodology training and understanding of ACTFL standards and proficiency guidelines is a plus.

Responsibilities
  • Teach third grade Spanish classes in full and half-groups;
  • Design engaging curricula and lessons, collaborate with others in the department;
  • Engage actively in departmental and school-wide inclusion efforts;
  • Work one‑on‑one with students daily for support and enrichment;
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree preferred;
  • Minimum of three years relevant teaching experience; elementary teaching strongly preferred;
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive practices, with respect to pedagogy, curriculum, and community engagement;
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Facility with relevant educational technologies.
