Summary

The Counselor works collaboratively with specialist, teachers and Instructional Assistants to support students’ progress by coordinating on lesson planning (differentiation), sharing data, team teaching and providing information and materials to families. Thorough excellent communication, organizational skills and great energy the Counselor supports the academic and personal growth of our students, while making sure all students are successful and develop strong characters.

The Counselor makes sure the students understand the school wide expectations and policies while consistently asking the students to follow the outlined expectations for common areas within the school. In addition the counselor supports staff in the scheduled arrival, mealtime and dismissal duties.

Job Duties
  • Share academic and behavioral data with Teachers, Instructional Assistants and administrators as needed
  • Collaborate and provide support to students and families on students’ case load
  • Contact families via telephone or face to face to inform on student’s progress and keep an updated log of the contact
  • Organize case notes following every session
  • Provide students with direct support (individual, small groups) based on needs
  • Participate in school-wide community sessions
  • Collaborate in class community sessions or select specific students for special sessions
  • Manage and facilitate CST process and schedule meetings to help outline interventions for teacher use
  • Design and use progress reports for students on caseloads, based on individual or group goals
  • Observe students and teachers in classrooms to provide teacher and student with feedback
  • Support teaching and learning in all classrooms and determined by administrators
  • Participate actively in team planning meeting to collaborate on case load and needed steps
  • Support in class school meetings to focus on character in classrooms
  • Attend all faculty meetings

Requirements
  • Attend the annual Hyde 101 Training
  • Previous experience as a school counselor
  • Demonstrated success working in an urban school setting
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • A Master’s degree in Education or relevant content area (preferred)
  • New York State Certification (preferred)
