FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT The Department of Communication, Theatre & Media Production at Queensborough Community College (QCC), part of the City University of New York (CUNY), invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Communication Studies beginning Spring 2027.
Given the College’s strong commitment to pedagogical innovation and student success, we seek candidates who demonstrate excellence—or strong promise of excellence—in pedagogy. The successful candidate will be an effective and engaging Communication Studies Generalist with area(s) of interest in public speaking, business and professional communication, intercultural communication, interpersonal communication, linguistics, and phonetics. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong knowledge of communication theories, methodologies, and practices, and will contribute to the continued growth and development of the Communication Studies concentration.
Evidence of scholarly research and publication potential is also expected. We seek a dynamic scholar whose expertise may include, but is not limited to, Organizational Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Communication Education, Intercultural Communication, Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, Rhetoric and Public Address, Information and Communication Technology, Strategic Communication or Public Relations, Health Communication, or related areas within the field of Communication Studies.

Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Communication Studies by the time of application.

Faculty Responsibilities Include

  • Teaching a range of communication courses across the curriculum;
  • Providing leadership in the development and assessment of communication courses;
  • Participating in departmental and college service, including committee work, curriculum development, and program assessment;
  • Supporting departmental initiatives such as speech proficiency screenings, student advisement, and mentoring student projects;
  • Participating in High-Impact Practices;
  • Participating in evening and/or weekend teaching schedules, and a variety of modalities (synchronous, hybrid, asynchronous, etc.) as needed.

The contractual teaching load is 24 contact hours per academic year (typically eight course sections). Untenured Assistant Professors receive 18 contact hours of reassigned time during their first five annual appointments to support scholarly and creative activity related to their discipline. Following tenure, faculty receive six contact hours of reassigned time during the subsequent three academic years, beginning in the year tenure becomes effective.

For reappointment, tenure, and promotion, the successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate an active record of scholarly research and publication.
