Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Law
About CUNY School of LawThe City University of New York (CUNY) School of Law seeks a candidate for a (unitary) tenure track appointment to teach in our required Lawyering Program (1 L and 2L) as well as elective courses in Technology and the Law and related areas, including Artificial Intelligence and the Law. The School is a national leader in progressive legal education, being top ranked for public interest law and for clinical programs.
CUNY is also the most diverse law school in the nation, in terms of both faculty and student body, and has a three‑year full‑time day program and a four‑year part‑time evening program. Its mission is two‑fold: to train public interest attorneys to practice law in the service of human needs and to provide access to the profession for members of historically underrepresented communities.
- Teach required Lawyering Program courses (1 L and 2L) and elective courses in Technology and the Law, including Artificial Intelligence and the Law.
- Supervise students in legal practice or related activities.
- Participate in committee and department assignments, as well as in administrative, supervisory, and other functions.
- Teach other subjects as needed, including courses in the required Lawyering Program on a rotating basis, and teach both day and evening programs on a rotating basis.
- Integrate anti‑oppression, liberation‑oriented pedagogy into teaching to develop social justice lawyers capable of defending historically vulnerable populations, and inculcate values of professionalism, civil discourse, strategic and zealous advocacy, and ethics and integrity.
- J.D., L.L.B., or Ph.D. in a law‑related discipline.
- Demonstrated or promised evidence of significant success as a faculty member.
- Interest in productive scholarship or law‑related work.
- Ability to teach successfully.
- Ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
- At least five (5) years of practice experience in the relevant subject areas.
- For applicants seeking to teach in a clinic or in the Skills area: at least three (3) years of clinical or skills teaching or related practice experience.
- Admission to a bar of one or more of the states or territories of the United States.
- Social justice lawyering experience and an ability to bring this experience to teaching.
- Demonstrated promise of success in faculty governance and in other ways that build and strengthen the institution.

Law Associate Professor: $107,620 - $167,062
Law Assistant Professor: $91,971 - $136,606
