Job Description:
St. John's is currently seeking a full-time Pre-K 3 teacher for the 2026/2027 school year. This teacher would be responsible for instruction of the Pre-K 3 curriculum. This includes creating a positive learning environment, developing long and short-range plans, implementing plans effectively, formative and summative assessment of student progress, and a number of administrative duties such as attendance, parent communication, etc.
This position is perfect for someone who is passionate about early childhood development. Our Pre-K teachers foster a nurturing, structured environment that supports the developmental, social-emotional, and early academic growth of our youngest learners.
The ideal candidate would be warm, energetic, innovative, and qualified to work as a pre-kindergarten teacher, and would work collaboratively with our administration, faculty and staff, becoming an integral part of our SJS community.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:- A desire to create a positive educational environment that is flexible, student-centered, and allows students to learn, grow and promote success for students of all abilities.
- Willingness to work as a member of a cooperative team, collaborating on best practices, common assessments, and data analysis
- Demonstrated evidence to maintain high levels of student engagement.
- Develop and implement age-appropriate, engaging lesson plans that support early learning in literacy, numeracy, social skills, and motor development
- Create a safe, welcoming, and consistent classroom environment rooted in kindness and respect
- Contributes within and outside the classroom if called upon, i.e. advisor, chaperone, club, etc.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with students, faculty, support staff, and parents
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of NYS Learning Standards and Pre-K curriculum
- Demonstrated evidence of exceptional effective classroom management skills
- Knowledge of technology and its application in the classroom
- Ability to reflect and contemplate on one’s teaching – allowing for growth and excellence
- Demonstrated evidence to use data and assessment tools to identify needs, assess student progress and performance, plan instruction to improve performance and achievement of all learners.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings and extra-curricular/school related activities and committees.
- Demonstrated evidence of optimism, enthusiasm, compassion, warmth, understanding and sensitivity to all students.
Required Education/
Experience:
- A valid New York State teaching certificate in Early Childhood Education, preferred but not required.
- Teaching experience, particularly at the Elementary level
- Bachelor’s Degree in Childhood or Early Childhood Education
- VIRTUS certified and background checked
Skills:
- Experience working with preschool-aged children in an educational setting
- Strong understanding of early childhood development and best practices
- Excellent communication, organizational, and classroom management skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with teachers, administrators, parents, and students
- Knowledge of Google Classroom and other technology platforms
