MCNY enrolls approximately 1,000 students annually into its accelerated degree programs with convenient onsite and remote schedules for added flexibility.
Summary The Academic Advisor is part of the Student Success team, working under the supervision of the Director of Student Success to create, implement, and promote a wide variety of activities and programs focusing on the needs of all students. The Academic Advisor will be assigned a case load of students, while working collaboratively with other advisors to support students.
MCNY enrolls daytime, evening, and Saturday students. As part of the team, the Academic Advisor will be required to work some late evenings, occasional Saturdays.
Responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to:
Monitor the academic progress of designated students to ensure a successful path to completion of the degree
Partner with designated Deans/Directors to identify trends and issues in the programs and proactively develop strategies to address student concerns
Advise students on classes to be taken on a semesterly basis
Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, counseling, or related field required
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Demonstration of initiative and passion for student success
Sound judgment, problem solving and critical thinking skills are essential
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Proficient in Microsoft Office and will be required to learn various internal student information and learning management systems
Experience with Blackboard or Moodle preferred
Flexible to work evenings and weekends as needed; travel to Bronx location
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to work as a member of a team, where cooperation and initiative are valued
Minimum of two years of experience working in higher education with students from diverse backgrounds
