The Reading Literacy Teacher provides targeted instructional support to meet the literacy needs of struggling students through pull-out services and push-in support in the classroom. The role requires the ability to build trusting relationships with struggling readers and foster a supportive learning environment to achieve growth in our students’ literacy. The ideal candidate is adaptive, has a positive approach to challenges, and is relentless in their pursuit of helping every child become a reader.
This position is responsible for planning, monitoring, reporting, communicating student progress and performance, and collaborating with general education staff.
Essential Responsibilities Identify students for placement in intervention groups in collaboration with the instructional team
Plan and deliver high-quality small group instruction that meets the targeted needs of scholars (decoding/ fluency/comprehension)
Administer ongoing reading assessments to monitor the progress of intervention efforts
Collaborate with co-teacher(s) to review and assist in developing lesson plans, provide students with grades and timely feedback, modify instruction, incorporate high-leverage co-teaching models, utilize data to inform lesson planning, schedule and attend regular planning and norming meetings, prepare for and attend IEP meetings
Collaborate with teachers across all core subjects to execute on interdisciplinary literacy initiatives and competency/standard alignment
Foster literacy environments in the Close Reading, Writing, Phonics, and Literacy Interventions blocks and mindsets where all scholars have access to grade-level standards and demonstrate high levels of growth and achievement
Uses identified research-based interventions focused specifically on individual student needs
Maintains data-based documentation of continuous monitoring of student performance and progress
Implements looking at student work protocols, data analysis practices, and urgently responding to student data Communicates with teachers, administration, and families regarding student progress
Participates in meetings with teachers, administration, and families to discuss student placement and progress
Provides diagnostic assessments for students as needed
Attends the appropriate training to improve knowledge and skills
Performs other related duties as assigned
Knowledge and skills
Able to work independently and in a self-reliant manner
Ability to turn best practices into high-quality, goal-driven results
Ability to apply instructional strategies for differentiation
Ability to collect data and make course placement recommendations for students
Displays effective time management skills
Experience with data management tools, organizational tools, and computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook).Possesses strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills to communicate with a varied audience
Master's in Education, Special Education, or a related field.
Experience with K-8 students
Strong background in intervention strategies and progress monitoring
Familiarity with multi-tiered support systems (MTSS) a plus
