$20.00/hour

Wed 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm, Thurs 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm;
Weekend evening recitals 2 x per year

General

Functions:

Under the direction of the Arts Studio Director, the Dance Instructor is a team player who demonstrates strong skills in class and lesson development; organization; interpersonal, verbal and written communication; and collaborative relationships. The Dance Instructor’s responsibilities include lesson planning, class proposals, material lists, attendance and class schedules. Dance lessons will teach the principles of dance education choreography in the given genre of the class, while keeping in line with the YMCA values of honesty, respect, responsibility and caring.

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks:

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop and implement dancing lessons that increase the knowledge of art principles as well as expand the student’s interest in dance.
  • Create a safe and trusting creative environment in the Dance Studio.
  • Ensure the safety of all students.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the Dance Studio with a team effort of the class.
  • Communicate respectfully and clearly to all students and parents.
  • Reinforce positive behaviors and creative strides.
  • Handle disruptive behaviors.
  • Actively participate in promoting the Y-Arts program at the YMCA and in the community.
  • Follow all guidelines and procedures.
  • Works with other dance instructors and assistants to plan and lead 2 recitals per year.
  • Actively pursue learning opportunities related to art education and character development.
  • Maintain required paperwork for the Arts Studio Director.
  • Sustain open communication between Arts Studio Director and fellow dance instructors.
  • Attend mandatory YMCA trainings as/when required.
  • All other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Requirements Experience and

Education:
  • A college degree related to the position’s related art field.
  • Prior experience working directly with students in a dance education related environment.
Qualifications:
  • Possess and demonstrate excellent organizational, verbal and written communication, interpersonal, decision-making, problem solving and leadership skills.
  • Possess strong experience and skills in their given field of fine arts.
  • Possess and demonstrate ability to work both within a team and independently.
  • Possess and demonstrate the ability to develop and implement meaningful and creative lesson plans appropriate for the targeted age group.
Trainings &

Certifications:
  • Must complete online Bloodborne Pathogens, Employee Safety and Youth Protection Series trainings prior to initial assignment to position.
  • Must complete online Hazard Communication training within the first 90-days of employment.
  • Must attend and complete Listen First within 90-days of employment.
