Schedule & Hours

Temporary, part‑time. Up to 14‑16 hours per week from July 21st to November 22nd. Includes monthly Monday meetings 1‑4 pm. Additional days/times Tuesdays‑Sundays 8 am‑4 pm, depending on market schedule.

Workplace Flexibility

In‑office Mondays; on‑site at farmers’ markets, farm stands, or Health Centers Tuesdays–Sundays.

Work Environment

On‑site at NYC farmers’ markets, farm stands, and Health Centers across NYC. Weekly Monday morning meetings at the NYC Health Department office in Long Island City, Queens.

Salary

Pay $24 per hour through a staffing agency.

About the Role

Bilingual educators fluent in English/Spanish will prepare and deliver bilingual nutrition and cooking workshops at farmers’ markets, farm stands, and Health Centers from August to November 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in a required, paid 5‑day training in July 2026 (7/21, 7/22, 7/24, 7/27, and 7/28).
  • Attend required monthly Monday afternoon staff meetings at the Health Department office in Long Island City, Queens, to share program updates and receive role‑specific training and support.
  • Collaborate with a team of three or more at each workshop site, including a Nutrition Educator and a Culinary Educator.
  • Prepare for and orally interpret in‑person nutrition education workshops and cooking demonstrations from English to Spanish, and translate some written signage and educational messaging where possible.
  • Assist the Nutrition Educator with:
    • Preparation and implementation of nutrition education sessions.
    • Survey distribution and completion.
    • Data collection.
  • Assist the Culinary Educator with food preparation tasks between workshops.
  • Actively participate in the proper set‑up and breakdown of the tent, cooking equipment, and educational materials.
  • Follow the curriculum and maintain the integrity and fidelity of programming.
  • Participate actively in the marketing and promotion of programming at NYC farmers markets, farm stands, and Health Centers to achieve desired participation levels.
  • Maintain all safety protocols at workshop sites.
  • Maintain and encourage environmentally sustainable practices at workshop sites.

This temporary, paid position is part‑time and seasonal. Up to three applicants will be selected for the Bilingual Educator role to fulfill assignments at six market sites. Selected educators must commit to their assigned one‑to‑two sites, including at least one weekend site. Work hours align with farmers’ market schedules.

Qualifications
  • Oral fluency in English and Spanish.
  • Dynamic personality and excellent presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in multicultural settings with racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse populations.
  • Commitment to and strong interest in teamwork and effective communication practices.
  • Willing and able to stand for long periods of time and work outside, including in inclement weather conditions.
  • Willing and able to regularly lift and transport items weighing up to 25 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
  • Ability to write in Spanish and translate written materials from English to Spanish.
  • Experience interpreting information orally from English to Spanish.
  • Experience working as part of a team.
  • Understanding of and experience with regional food systems and food security issues and their underlying causes of health inequities in NYC communities.
  • Strong preference for those with knowledge about and interest in nutrition and community food security issues in NYC.
Physical Requirements
  • Willing and able to stand for long periods of time and work outside in inclement weather conditions.
  • Willing and able to regularly lift and transport items weighing up to 25 pounds.
