Berkeley Carroll is a Pre-K through grade 12 college preparatory school of approximately 1,000 students located in the Park Slope section of New York City. Our vibrant intellectual community draws students from all over the city, admission to the school is competitive, and both our parents and students value achievement.
The Berkeley Carroll School seeks a part-time After school Mentor for its After School program for Grades PreK to 4th grade to help with our After School Playgroup. The mission of the program is to offer opportunities for unstructured play, with the option of more structured experiences. The ideal candidate will understand how four- to ten-year-olds play and relax after school while facilitating ongoing communication with parents and staff.
This position reports to the After School Manager.
- September 10, 2026-June 15, 2027, while school is in session, with orientation in August
- M - F: 2:30pm-6:00pm (Available at least 3 days, schedule will be set in September)
- Support in the daily administration of the after school program, including but not limited to ensuring the well‑being and safety of all participants, leading and facilitating games and activities, assisting with courses, maintaining a fun and safe environment for the participants, keeping facilities clean, and assisting with signing participants in and out each day
- Report any incidents or accidents to appropriate program personnel
- Communicate with parents, as needed
- Assist with safe arrival/departure of campers
- Maintain awareness of participant allergies, medications and emergency contact information
- Help resolve conflicts of play and sports in ways that align with Berkeley Carroll’s practices
- Other duties, as assigned
- Ability to work at least three days M-F from 2:30-6:00 pm, beginning September 14th
- Bachelor’s degree or working toward a Bachelor’s degree
- Experience working with children
- Strong organizational skills
- CPR & First Aid certification (or willingness to acquire)
