Mission Statement

East Side House cares for the individuals, families, and communities we serve by expanding opportunities to live more fulfilling lives through education, career, and supportive services.

Job Description

East Side House (ESH), founded in 1891, is a 501(c)(3) organization that has served the South Bronx since 1963. The organization is dedicated to the community and focused on providing resources and opportunities. East Side House has identified that education is the foundation for economic improvement and through its youth education and technology programs it teaches skills to allow its students and clients to become more self-sufficient and independent.

As a community resource the organization also provides services to families and a growing senior population. In 2020 the organization began food distribution as an additional way to provide economic support to the community we serve.

ESH is directly responsible for the administration of Lehman YABCs Learning-to-Work Program, which enhances the school’s academic component by offering additional academic support, career and education exploration, work preparation, skills development, and internships. Lehman Young Adult Borough Center (YABC) is an alternative afternoon and evening program designed to meet the educational needs of high school students who are behind in credits or have adult responsibilities that make it hard to attend school during the day.

Students attend YABCs part-time in the afternoon or evening to earn a high school diploma. The YABC program is designed to re-engage high school students who are over-age and under-credited or have dropped out of high school.

Under the direction of the Program Director the Student Advisor will provide support over a wide variety of areas including college and career readiness, academic progress monitoring, day-to-day student issues, social-emotional and personal development. Student Advisors will follow the Primary Person Model where they will be the first point of contact for students, parents and staff members. It is expected to work collaboratively with our partner school faculty and staff to ensure each student’s academic success.
