Location: New York

Bard Graduate Center announces a faculty search for an Assistant Professor in Fashion, Dress, and Textiles of the Americas. This position has a preference for advanced junior candidates (1 completed project). Ph.D. is required and must be conferred by the start date. Candidates may specialize in any area of the Americas (North, Central, South), including borderlands and Atlantic or Pacific worlds, between the 18th and 21st centuries.

Material knowledge of textiles, dress (inclusive of clothing, costume, and fashion), methods of construction and manufacture, and histories and methodologies in fashion studies is essential. Research about, with, or in collaboration with Indigenous, diasporic, migrant, and/or underrepresented communities is encouraged. Regardless of area of specialization in the Americas, the ability to teach and advise about textiles, fashion, and dress in wider global, theoretical, and methodological contexts is expected.

Successful candidates will have some experience teaching and advising graduate students, and interest in pursuing public scholarship.

Bard Graduate Center is an advanced graduate research institute in New York City dedicated to the cultural histories of the material world. Our MA and PhD degree programs, Gallery exhibitions, research initiatives, scholarly publications and public programs promote interdisciplinary ways of thinking about decorative arts, design history, and material culture. Our students gravitate to careers in academia, the art world, museums, and publishing.

Compensation: The salary range is $85,000 - $105,000
