Role Description The Universal Pre-K Director is a full-time, on-site role based in New York, NY, responsible for overseeing the daily operations and educational program of the Universal Pre-K (UPK) site. The director ensures that all instructional practices align with New York City and New York State early childhood standards, as well as the mission and values of the Archdiocese. Day-to-day responsibilities include supervising teaching and support staff, overseeing lesson planning and classroom environments, monitoring student progress, and maintaining compliance with all regulatory and funding requirements.
The director collaborates with families, school leadership, and external partners to support each child’s academic, social‑emotional, and spiritual development. Additional duties include managing program budgets and resources, coordinating professional development, and maintaining accurate records and reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated skills in early childhood educational leadership, including program administration, staff supervision, and curriculum oversight.
- Experience with classroom management, child development practices, and creating inclusive, culturally responsive learning environments.
- Ability to build strong partnerships with families, communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, and foster a collaborative school culture.
- Knowledge of New York City and New York State UPK regulations, compliance standards, and educational best practices.
- Strong organizational, planning, and record‑keeping skills, including managing schedules, reporting data, and overseeing program resources.
- Proficiency in using basic office and educational technology tools for communication, documentation, and instructional support.
- Master's degree in Early Childhood Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field, and appropriate New York State certification (or eligibility) preferred.
- Prior experience directing or coordinating a Pre-K or early childhood program, especially within a school or faith‑based setting, is highly beneficial.
