Biology Teacher
We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Biology Teacher to join our team of educators dedicated to academic excellence and equity. The ideal candidate is committed to helping students develop scientific reasoning, problem-solving skills, and curiosity about the natural world while connecting scientific learning to issues of health, the environment, and social justice.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and deliver engaging, rigorous Biology lessons aligned with New York State Learning Standards and Regents requirements
- Integrate inquiry-based instruction, hands-on laboratory experiences, and real-world applications of science
- Incorporate technology to enhance student engagement and support data-driven instruction
- Collaborate with colleagues to design interdisciplinary learning experiences connecting science to law, policy, and social justice
- Use formative and summative assessments to measure student understanding and growth
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students
- Maintain accurate academic records and analyze student data to inform instructional decisions
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and academically challenging learning environment
- Model respect, fairness, and professionalism in all interactions
- Communicate regularly with families to support student learning and growth
- Participate actively in professional learning, collaborative planning, and school initiatives
- Reflect on instructional practices and seek opportunities for continuous improvement
- Uphold the mission, values, and expectations of the Charter High School for Law and Social Justice
- Strong classroom management and student engagement strategies
- Ability to inspire curiosity and critical thinking in students
- Effective collaboration and communication skills
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive pedagogy
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Science Education, or a related field
- New York State Certification in Biology / Living Environment (or eligibility for certification)
- Minimum of two years of teaching experience
- Demonstrated success working in non-traditional and/or urban school settings
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience integrating educational technology into instruction
- Willingness to learn and grow professionally
- Master’s degree in Secondary Education, Biology, or a related field
- Experience teaching Biology or Living Environment Regents courses
- Experience supporting English Language Learners and students with disabilities
