JOB SUMMARY:

Working closely with the Program Director, the Leadership Development Specialist will co-facilitate a range of classes within our program for adolescent girls and young women, including:
Girls Be Heard (Playwriting and performance, for ages 13-20), Adventure Learning (for ages 11-YA), Build a Bridge (Mental Health Awareness for ages 11-YA), EDsnaps (STEM workshops for ages 11-18), Silence Out Loud (Poetry for ages 13-YA) and G.O.A.L. (reproductive health, leadership development, financial literacy, self-defense and college workshops for young women in HS).The Leadership Development Specialist may also be asked to independently lead gender-specific classes or workshops with 3rd-8th graders in one or more of New Settlement’s after-school programs, including fitness, self-defense, financial literacy and reproductive health.

This position is for 4- 10 hours a week depending on classes.

Job Duties include but not limited to:

Attend all classes, rehearsals and workshops for which you are one of the scheduled leaders, unless ill or advance arrangements are made.

Staff cultural, leadership-building and recreational field trips and outdoor expeditions; and cover additional classes as needed, with advance notice and agreement.

Record attendance for classes, rehearsals and trips.

Provide instruction in collaborative play-writing and reproductive health; also deliver lessons in fitness, adventure learning, self-defense and economic literacy from licensed curricula.

Lead team-building exercises, and lead by example – demonstrating clear, respectful communication and modeling collaboration skills for youth.

Support students in developing their own poems and scenes for performance.

Provide grade-appropriate instruction in college preparedness.

Support the STEM workshop leader and maintain a collaborative and safe environment, using positive youth development best practices;

Support students in conducting hands-on projects and experiments.

Support students in their college and career research.

Supervise classes and trips, maintaining participant safety, and upholding a supportive and inclusive environment for all students using a positive youth development model.

Participate in monthly staff meetings.

Participate in Program/agency staff development workshops when scheduled (required), as well as professional development or trainings in licensed curricula, related subjects (arts and literacy, reproductive health, financial literacy) and youth development, when possible, by prior arrangement with the Program Coordinator.
