Employment Status: Permanent, Full Time, Exempt, 40 hours per week

Location: Position is based in New York City. The position is hybrid with a requirement to work 4 days a week from the office and one day remote. Some travel throughout New York State is required.

Salary: $75,800/year

Position Overview

The Training Manager, Immigration Legal Services owns the strategy, program design, development, and management of NYIC Training Institute legal and law-related training programming for immigration legal service providers, including attorneys and non-attorney legal practitioners such as accredited representatives, paralegals, and legal assistants, through legal training, technical assistance, and communities of practice.

Under the supervision of the Director of Training and Technical Assistance, the Training Manager, Immigration Legal Services, leads legal and law-related training and technical assistance initiatives, The role is accountable for high-quality curriculum and training delivery, trainer coordination, participant experience, accurate program data and reporting, and compliance with applicable Continuing Legal Education requirements. The Training Manager, Immigration legal services may supervise a Training Associate or Intern.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Program Management
  • Collaborate with Manager of Training Operations to the delivery of the NYIC Training Institute’s signature 40-Hour Comprehensive Overview of Immigration Law training, including maintaining and updating curricula, recruiting trainers, and providing outreach and support to attendees.
  • Design and implement new and innovative legal and law-related training programs for service providers working with immigrant communities.
  • Lead the development of training curricula in partnership with relevant subject matter experts, and ensure that training materials and structure are interactive, engaging, and relevant to participants.
  • Conduct trainings on selected topics and recruit qualified trainers to train on other subjects.
Legal Technical Assistance
  • Lead technical assistance program for organizations seeking DOJ Recognition and Accreditation, including fielding questions, providing 1:1 consultation and application feedback, and facilitating group consultations.
  • Plan and coordinate the delivery of legal technical assistance to immigration legal practitioners across NY state.
  • Co-present periodic webinars on DOJ R&A for staff and volunteers of New York-based nonprofits.
  • Represent NYIC on the national R&A working group.
Monitoring, Data Analysis, Reporting, and Other Duties
  • Adhere to all
  • Ensure compliance with all requirements of an Accredited Provider of Continuing Legal Education (CLE) in New York State.
  • Oversee training program logistics and participant experiences for training directly related to this area of programming.
  • May supervise a Training Associate and/ or intern, by setting clear expectations, supporting professional development, and conducting performance management.
