AccountabilitiesThe Department of Music at Colgate University invites applications for the position of Teacher of Saxophone, beginning in Fall 2026. This part-time role is ideal for an experienced professional with a strong commitment to teaching and a passion for fostering musical growth in a liberal arts setting. The teacher of saxophone is responsible for:
- Teaching lessons to students; relevant techniques and performance skills.
- Developing and implementing lesson plans catering to students’ needs and skill levels.
- Selecting appropriate repertoire and musical pieces for students to work on during lessons and performances.
- Staying updated with current trends and developments and incorporating innovative teaching methods into lessons.
- Meeting weekly with students to provide 30-minute or 60-minute lessons throughout the term.
Professional Experience/ Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in teaching saxophone lessons on a one-on-one basis, with preference for experience teaching at the collegiate level.
- Professional performance experience preferred.
- Ability to effectively communicate and work with students of diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
- Master’s degree or higher in music
- Private lesson teaching experience including beginning, intermediate, and advanced students
- Experience with classical saxophone methods and repertoire as a teacher, student, and/or performer
Bachelor’s degree in music required.
