As an Elementary After school Teacher's Assistant at P.S. 1 Alfred

, you’ll become part of the school community while helping students transition from their regular school day into a supportive and academically engaging after school environment. Your day will begin with push-in classroom support during the school's 8th period
, where you'll work alongside school staff and assist students during their final class of the day. From there, you'll help transition students enrolled in the program into their after school classroom and continue supporting a group of approximately 10-15 students alongside school staff. During after school hours, you'll help students complete homework, reinforce skills they are learning in school, and provide additional academic support when needed.
When students have completed their homework or do not have assignments, you'll use Simply Ed's supplemental test readiness materials to keep them learning and engaged. Training and materials will be provided to prepare you to use these resources effectively.

As a Simply Ed Elementary After school Teacher's Assistant, you will:
- Provide push-in classroom support during the 8th period
, assisting the classroom teacher and students during the final class of the regular school day. - Help transition students smoothly from their school-day classroom into the after school program.
- Work with a group of approximately 10-15 elementary students alongside school staff.
- Provide one-on-one and small group assistance with homework and other school assignments.
- Reinforce academic skills and help students work through challenging concepts rather than simply providing answers.
- Use Simply Ed's supplemental test readiness materials when students have completed their homework or do not have assignments to work on.
- Participate in training on Simply Ed's academic materials and how to use them effectively with students.
- Help maintain a structured, positive, and engaging after school environment.
- Build positive relationships with students and collaborate with teachers and school staff.
- Attend required training sessions and staff meetings.
We're seeking individuals who are:
- Passionate about supporting elementary students' academic and personal growth.
- Comfortable working with and engaging groups of elementary-aged students.
- Able to support students with homework across core elementary subjects, including Math and ELA.
- Reliable, professional, and committed to showing up every day.
- Strong communicators and collaborative team players.
- Experienced with children (formally or informally) - school experience preferred, but training is provided.
- Currently pursuing or holding a bachelor's degree in Educationor a related field.
- Patient, encouraging, and able to adapt their approach to different learning environments and student needs.
- Able to help maintain structure and positive expectations in an after school setting.
- Cleared (or eligible for clearance) through NYC DOE PETS background check and fingerprinting.
- Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus.
- Competitive pay of $26/hour
