No Program Overview CUNY EDGEis a grant-funded partnership between the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the City University of New York (CUNY),operating across 20 CUNY colleges. Housed within Academic Affairsat John Jay College, the program supports students receiving Cash Assistance in achieving academic success, completing their degrees, and preparing for meaningful careers. CUNY EDGEutilizesa holistic model that integrates academic advising, career development, and case management to support students from enrollment through graduation and into the workforce.
Position Summary Reporting to the Director, the Advisor plays a critical role in delivering an integrated advising experience that blends academic planning, career development, andpersonalindividualized student support. The Advisor manages a caseload of students and provides proactive,student-centered guidance to promote persistence, completion, and post‑graduation success.

The programpromotes a culture of student engagement and skilldevelopment viaworkshops, weekly timesheets, and ongoing participation requirements. This role requiresa holistic approach that connects students’ academic experiences with career pathways, while also supporting their navigation of institutional and public benefit requirements. The Advisor fosters a supportive and inclusive environment where students feel empowered to achieve their goals. This is a grant‑funded position with the Research Foundation of CUNY.
Responsibilities
- Provideholisticone‑on‑one and group advising that intentionally integrates academic planning,career development, and individualized supportto help students persist, graduate, and achieve post‑graduationgoals
- Guide students in selectingmajors, planning coursework,scholarshipprocess,and staying on track fortimelygraduation
- Supportstudentsin exploring career interests, understandingworkforce expectations,applying for internship/ employment opportunities,and career development resources. Maintain a caseload anddeliverconsistent,proactive support, including monitoringacademicprogressand intervening early to address challenges
- Assist students in navigatingfinancial aid, scholarships, andpublic benefit requirements, including documentation processes-such as completing theHRA 154- schoolletter
- Contribute to program communications, materials, and initiatives
- Maintainaccurateandtimelydocumentation ofadvisinginteractions and student outcomes in theData Management System (DMS– CUNY EDGE’s custom database) and EAB
- Navigate Support withthe HRAFellowship Program, includingstudent onboarding,orientation, workshops,timesheet tracking,case notes, and ongoing student engagement
- Closely collaborating with other college departments, including financial aid, the bursar, the registrar, counseling center, career center, academic advising units, etc. Refer students, obtain student information, and receive referrals
- Contribute to audit readiness and reportingbymaintainingthorough records, supporting documentation collection, and ensuring alignment with programandHRArequirements
- Participate inprogram planning,staff meetings, and continuous improvement efforts, including data collection andassessments
- Perform other duties as assigned by the CUNY EDGE Director

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, social work, public administration, or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in advising, case management, or student support services
