Middle School Mandarin Teacher Leave Position

LREI (Little Red School House & Elisabeth Irwin High School) seeks educators committed to exploring progressive pedagogy. Candidates with diverse experiences are encouraged to apply.

LREI seeks a full-time Mandarin teacher to teach sections of fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth graders. The candidate is responsible for familiarizing themselves with the existing curriculum, standards and assessments, as well as bringing their own interests and expertise to the classroom. Responsibilities include partnering with the other language teachers as well as serving as an advisor for a group of middle school students.

Successful LREI teachers are lifelong learners who are reflective about their practice, and are earnest but flexible. They participate in the life of the division beyond their own classrooms, find ways to connect students to ‘real life’, and seek out professional development and leadership opportunities.

• Candidates should be comfortable conducting instruction mostly in Mandarin, and in facilitating hands-on projects.
• We seek an educator who enjoys middle schoolers. We seek someone who can inspire students and teachers, be inspired by our mission, and support a dynamic learning environment with high educational expectations.
• A commitment to social justice and equity, and cultural competence.
• The ability to work collaboratively, excellent communication skills, and a willingness to work closely with families are essential.
• A master’s degree in education with a focus on language learning and at least three years of successful experience as a teacher are preferred, but alternate pathways into the profession will be considered.

• Annual full-time salary of $74,002.24 - $ (depending on experience and education), prorated for time worked.

Founded in 1921 by Elisabeth Irwin (a contemporary and colleague of John Dewey, Caroline Pratt, and Lucy Sprague Mitchell), The Little Red School House has been at the vanguard of pedagogical innovation since its founding.
