Volunteer Mentor, Young Men's Initiative

Global Kids’ (GK) mission is to educate, inspire, and mobilize youth to become global citizens who are positively engaged in the world and are prepared for their future. Over its 37-year history, the organization has engaged thousands of young people in its innovative youth development programs that promote global awareness and action, building their agency to affect change in their community and beyond.

Our mentoring program aims to have the following goals:

• Promote positive changes in youth lifestyle towards themselves, others, and their future through goal setting, group discussions, and role modeling
• Assist youth in exploring college and career opportunities
• Support student academics by highlighting positive studying habits
• Partner with the on-site director for student development benchmark goals

• Must be over the age of 21 to be eligible to be a mentor
• Commit to 7 months as a group mentor for high school students, working with 6-8 students at a time.
• Facilitate two, two-hour sessions per month
• Attend at least one field trip with mentees per month
• Must pass DOE background checks

Mentors are asked to indicate their availability and preferred site.

• High School for Medical Professions, Canarsie, Brooklyn:
  Mon, Wed, & Friday: 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM,
• High School for Public Service, East Flatbush, Brooklyn:
  Mon & Wed, 2:45 PM to 5:00 PM
• High School for Global Citizenship, Crown Heights, Brooklyn:
  Mon, Tue, & Wed 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Fri: 1:15 PM to 2:30 PM

Mentors will receive a monthly travel stipend of $85.
