Physical Education Teacher
The Nightingale-Bamford School seeks an educator to join the Physical Education Department for the school year. We are seeking an eager, creative, and flexible faculty member to work with students in grades K-12. This is an exempt, full time, 10 month position for the school year with the potential for permanent placement.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):- Teach physical education across all three divisions:
Lower, Middle and Upper Schools - Implement a skill based curriculum that prompts an active and healthy lifestyle amongst students
- Co-teach Lower school classes focusing on areas including but not limited to foundational locomotive movements, fitness, sport specific skills, team concepts and small games
- Develop creative and innovative Middle School and Upper School classes with a focus on life long skills
- Design engaging and relevant student-centered lessons
- Collaborate with other faculty to infuse interdisciplinary strategies
- Participate actively in school life; assemblies, advisory, clubs, faculty meetings, professional development, and other community events
- Must instill an enthusiasm for movement and fitness in students
- Coach a minimum of two seasons of Middle or Upper School athletics
- Perform other school duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in physical education and health education
- 3+ years experience teaching physical in a K-12 setting
- Possess excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, the ability to be flexible, and a passion for working with children
- Varsity level coaching experience
- CPR and first aid certification
- Experience engaging with and adapting to diverse learners
- Experience designing and implementing developmentally-appropriate and varied activities
- A shared understanding of the mission of the School and a demonstrated commitment to the core principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Must demonstrate cultural competence and be able to understand, appreciate, and work withconstituents across varied backgrounds and cultures
- High professional and ethical standards for teaching in an educational setting
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and an ability to work collaboratively with all levels of constituents
- Superb oral and written communication skills
- High level of initiative, proven ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Possesses a sense of humor and appreciates this trait in others
I n compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $70,000 - $85,000. Nightingale considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer
