The ideal candidate will monitor the program participants and staff in both the Ticonderoga Teen Center as well as the Silver Bay Summer Camp. This role will report to the Youth & Teen Coordinator.

Supervisory Responsibilities: FT and PT Teen Center staff, Summer Seasonal Silver Camp staff.
Essential Functions Part 1:
Ticonderoga Teen Center (Sept
- May)
  • Able to work with a flexible weekly program that offers a supervised teen center and a variety of activities from lock-ins (overnights), dances, and leadership development for youth ages 13 to 18.
  • Works with Youth & Teen Coordinator to create and plan physical, social and educational opportunities;
    Prepares the necessary supplies for activities.
  • Leads and takes part in physical, social and educational activities offered to participants at the Teen Center.
  • Meet with the Youth & Teen Coordinator every week to discuss youth participation in programs, review issues/concerns, and coordinate programming.
  • Serve as primary advisor for Leaders Club, organize and lead regular meetings with values activities, plan and execute community service projects, and transport/chaperone teens to YMCA Teen Leaders Club Northeast Regional Rallies.
  • Keep an accurate attendance list of the participants in each program and return all attendance records to the Youth & Teen Coordinator.
  • Participate in and help lead group training programs for emergency procedures and other activities scheduled by the Youth & Teen Coordinator.
  • Assist Youth and Teen Coordinator with parent/guardian communications and publications including monthly calendars and newsletters.
  • Maintain Silver Bay YMCA’s commitment to customer service by being punctual, prepared for programs, and friendly to staff, youth and their parents/guardians.
  • Responsible for monitoring participant sign-in/sign-out and knowing where participants are at all times.
  • Oversee opening and closing procedures in the absence of the Youth and Teen Coordinator.
Essential Functions Part 2:
Silver Bay YMCA Silver Camp (June
- August)
  • Helps Youth & Teen Coordinator Implement YMCA character development goals for Silver Camp and ensure programs/services meet community needs.
  • Assists in the implementation of programs and activities at Silver Camp that foster the physical, social and intellectual growth of campers.
  • Works with Youth & Teen Coordinator on staff training, including safety, lesson plans, emergency procedures, policies regarding hikes, waterfront, archery, health and safety.
  • Leads and takes part in physical, social and educational activities offered to Silver Camp attendees.
  • Directly manages Silver Camp staff in the absence of the Youth & Teen Coordinator.
  • Monitors required staff-to-camper ratios, assists with swimming activities as needed.
  • Coordinates usage of facilities for Silver Camp; ensures site cleanliness.
  • Communicates clearly and courteously with staff, parents, volunteers and children.
  • Inspects and evaluates equipment on a daily and weekly basis; notifies supervisor of necessary repairs.
  • Performs other duties, as requested.

As a 24-hour operation, all staff may be asked to work weekends, evenings, night shifts and/or holidays to serve our members, guests, and program participants.

Requirements
  • Previous experience in implementing fun, meaningful, and age-appropriate programs for youth and teens preferred.
  • Must be able to maintain effective working relationships with staff, peers, children, volunteers, and parents who represent a diverse community.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to enforce rules in a professional and positive manner is a must.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications or willingness to be certified.
  • Child Abuse Prevention and other Y training is required within 14 days of hire.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills are required.
  • Basic MS computer skills required.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires the ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time to work at the computer or facilitate group activities. Must have the ability to adjust to effectively relate to each child. Other physical requirements may include reaching, kneeling, and the ability to lift 25 pounds.
