Part time - 16 hours per week (10 contact hours, 5 preparation hours, 1 hour for weekly staff meeting);
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings
Hourly Rate Range: $42 per hour - $42 per hour
Program
Description:
The Education Center provides adult education services to the Brooklyn community, offering ESOL classes, GED preparation, and language-supported vocational training. Additionally, the center operates a Family Welcome Center that provides case management, workforce development programming, and community workshops. Many students speak Spanish, Arabic, or Chinese as their first language.
Position
Description:
The BCS Education Center is seeking a part‑time ESOL Instructor to teach an English course integrated with job training in hospitality for the restaurant and hotel industries. Classes meet Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings, for a total of 10 contact hours per week. The instructor will also dedicate 5 hours per week to lesson preparation and 1 hour per week to staff meetings.
The instructor will focus on helping adult learners achieve measurable skills‑gain, testing, and retention targets while fostering an engaging and inclusive learning environment.
Accountable for:
- Measurable skills‑gain targets
- Testing targets
Responsible for:
- Design and facilitate ESOL classes for students in an integrated ESOL and job training course
- Curriculum design and lesson planning
- Attend weekly staff meetings
Qualifications
Required:
- Certificate or higher in TESOL
- Knowledge of TESOL methods and techniques; experience working with multicultural adult learners
- At least one year of teaching experience, preferably in a community setting
- Language skills in Spanish, Arabic, and/or Chinese are preferred
- Availability to teach Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings
