What does the Group Worker do:
  • Ensure the safety and security of each program participant by following CAMBA Education and Youth Development Staff Policies and Procedures Handbook, including but not limited to procedures and protocols regarding safety, supervision, accident and incident reporting.
  • Participate in 5-minute meeting (FMM) before the start of program each day as led by assigned Program Leader in order to share information about the plan for the day and the Assistant’s role.
  • Actively support students in following program guidelines on a daily basis.
  • Actively support program leader/program specialist in the implementation and documentation of program wide incentive programs with students on a daily basis, and provide follow up on a weekly basis.
  • Actively supervise students in the hallways, bathrooms and classrooms to ensure a safe environment.
  • Assist in taking daily student attendance.
  • Assist in classroom setup before and after program activity.
  • Distribute, collect, store instructional materials and/or sports equipment/games.
  • Assist clients, individually or in groups, with summer camp activities to present or to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Adhere to program polices regarding student arrival and dismissal, snack procedures, transition procedures and trip guidelines.
  • May assist in the facilitation of a club activity.
  • May operate learning aids such as film and projectors, smartboards, smart TVs, etc.
  • May prepare requisitions for instructional materials and supplies.
  • May type and copy instructional materials for distribution.
  • May confer with family members on progress of clients.
  • May co-facilitate a club activity.
  • Tasks may be modified, expanded and/or assigned over a period of time.
Qualifications Education, Licenses and/or Experience

Required:
  • High School Diploma or HSE,or
  • One year experience working with children under 13 years of age
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with the youth development field, after school or summer camp experience; strongly preferred.
Pre and/or Post Employment Requirements:
  • New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Sex Offender Registry (SOR) clearance
  • New York State Central Register (SCR) clearance for child abuse and maltreatment
  • New York State Staff Exclusion List (SEL) clearance
  • New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) clearance, as applicable
  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting, as required
  • completion of the required health and safety trainings listed below within the first week of employment:
    • Foundations in Health and Safety (5 hours)
    • Building on Foundations in Health and Safety (5 hours)
    • Identifying and Responding to Anaphylaxis:
      Elijah’s Law (1.5 hours)
    • Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Trauma-Informed Practice (45 minutes)
    • Mandated Reporter Training (2 hours)
    • Continued eligibility and maintenance of all required clearances throughout employment. Failure to maintain required clearances may result in removal from duties involving children and/or further employment action.
  • Complete a one-hour training, provided by DYCD, on the following topics:
    • Mental health and mental illness
    • Engagement and de-escalation strategies
    • Referral and crisis management protocols
    • Mental health resources
