The Equine Program Facilitator will implement the educational aspects of the multi-faceted equine program for children mostly after school and occasionally on weekends.
Must be able to conduct a diverse therapeutic/educational/recreational program that combines equine care,groundwork, worked based learning activities in a relationship based therapeutic environment. Is responsible for managing horses in a working barnand performs horse care, barn maintenance, and pasture care. As a member of thefarm team, the facilitator will participate in agency and farm special events.
- Follow the direction of the equine program manager and farm leadership team in preparing and implementing diverse equine activities, including but not necessarily limited to groundwork, games, therapy sessions, and public presentations
- Work closely with and take task direction from the Equine Program Manager
- Participate in all aspects of equine care, including but not necessarily limited to medical care, feeding,watering, and cleaning stalls, paddocks and pastures.
- Assist the children in the equine program in all ways necessary to create a safe and dynamic learning environment
- Mentor individual students in equine activities under the supervision of GC staff
- Assist in maintaining the arenas,multipurpose room and barn facility
- Communicate openly with the equine staff, interns, Farm leadership and other staff members about the program and children
- Support the farm and school during special events
- Other duties as assigned
Experience:
College degree preferred;
High School Diploma with significant experience working with horses required
Experience working with special needs children in a residential treatment setting is preferred
Licensure/Certification :PATH Certification or equivalent; will consider candidates with applicable experience and either certification in progress or the ability to obtain certification
ValidNY State Driver’s License and clean driving record with the ability to pull livestock trailer.
May train to pull trailer if candidate meets all other job required credentials.
CPR certification or the ability to become certified
