Position Summary

SUNY Ulster County Community College is inviting applications for an Assistant Professor of Nursing, a full-time, tenure-track teaching position for nursing courses.

Under the supervision of the Division or Department Chair, the faculty member will provide instruction in accordance with course descriptions, deliver instruction in various formats (day, evening, weekend, online, hybrid), and perform other instructional duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities
  • Use and develop effective teaching and assessment methods to engage students with diverse learning styles.
  • Integrate appropriate instructional technology into classroom and laboratory settings.
  • Evaluate student work using clear criteria aligned with course content and learning outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records (grades, syllabi, attendance) and submit them by published deadlines.
  • Participate in schedule development and curriculum review.
  • Assess student learning and develop improvement plans based on outcomes.
  • Advise students on programs of study, additional institutions, lifelong learning resources, and study skills; refer to support services as appropriate.
  • Develop and update curriculum, integrating multicultural perspectives and engaging students.
  • Evaluate and select instructional materials such as textbooks, manuals, software, and tools.
  • Participate in collegial responsibilities: meetings, committee assignments, shared governance, mentoring new faculty or staff, campus life activities.
  • Engage in professional development and stay current in the discipline and best educational practices.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in nursing.
  • Current New York State RN license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to teach nursing courses at the community college level using varied methods that engage students and foster higher-order thinking.
  • Student-centered teaching approach supporting diverse student needs.
  • Willingness to use diverse teaching methods and technologies to accommodate various learning styles.
  • Ability to teach online courses.
  • Experience in behavioral health, reproductive health, and community health.
  • Prior teaching at ADN level (lecture, lab, clinical).
Salary and Benefits

An initial starting salary of $56,000–$60,500 with an excellent benefits package. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, NYS or SUNY TIAA Retirement Plans, SUNY Perks, tuition waivers (including dependent waivers), tuition assistance, 12 sick days, 5 personal days, and holidays per the SUNY Ulster Academic Calendar.
