CUNY 2x Tech Academic Internship Specialist (Reopened)

Position:
Higher Education Assistant at Borough of Manhattan Community College

Reporting to the Chairperson of the Computer Information Systems Department, the Internship Specialist supports CUNY 2x Tech by partnering with industry, creating career pathways, and enhancing student success in tech programs.

This position is grant funded; funding will be available through June 2025.

• Support CUNY 2x Tech goals and student needs in the CIS Department.
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to provide academic support for students.
• Engage with employers to identify workforce needs, hiring challenges, and opportunities.
• Define skills and proficiencies needed for roles and explore partnerships to grow emerging industries.
• Secure partnerships with employers offering paid internships, apprenticeships, and full‑time positions for target majors.
• Cultivate employer relationships and share employment opportunities, referring qualified students when appropriate.
• Secure paid internships and full‑time job offers for new graduates, aligning with program objectives.
• Share knowledge with faculty, advisors, and the broader campus to integrate in‑demand skills.
• Report employment opportunities to the Program Manager to build cohorts of graduating students, prepare them for interviews, and support career goals.
• Collect and analyze program data, develop measurement criteria with partners, and enhance student learning outcomes.
• Act as liaison between the College and employer sponsors, monitoring internship success.
• Supervise student internships, ensuring adherence to College and governmental policies.
• Create and conduct orientation sessions and workshops for internship students; coordinate applications, interviews, and placement.
• Provide faculty orientation and development related to internship programs.
• Implement and evaluate competencies and other success factors.

• Bachelor’s degree and four years of related experience.

• Bachelor’s degree in IT‑related areas and at least four years of related experience.
• At least 3 years of experience with program or project management.
• Previous familiarity with academic environments, particularly in STEM fields.
• Professional experience in a tech field, preferably within or adjacent to NYC tech companies.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn CUNYfirst modules.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Understanding of the tech industry and its relationship to higher education.
• Experience with data and reporting (quantitative and qualitative).
• Experience in career services or economic/workforce development.
• Experience with community and business outreach, ideally in talent acquisition and outreach strategies.
• Experience working with non‑profit community‑based organizations.

Exempt

• Salary range: $75,465 – $79,188, commensurate with education and experience.
