General DescriptionSUNY Niagara has a need for a part‑time Technical Assistant to work in the Physics department within our Business & STEM division. This position will help the Physics Instructor prep the physics lab to ensure that the intended experiments work correctly in order to successfully reinforce the lecture concepts. The rate of pay is based on the level of education the candidate possesses.
For a Bachelor’s degree or lower the rate is $22.52 per hour; for a Master’s degree or higher the rate is $24.76 per hour.
- Prepare materials for use in undergraduate physics laboratories, including non‑calculus‑based and calculus‑based labs;
- Set up and remove class materials weekly in laboratory classrooms;
- Manage inventory, including maintaining records and recommending purchasing;
- Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained and functioning properly.
- Operate computers;
- Relate to a diverse population of students;
- Relate to faculty, staff, and senior members of administration;
- Communicate verbally and in writing;
- Physically perform the functions of the position.
- Associate’s degree or higher in Physics or a physics‑related field with at least 6 lab‑based science classes at the undergraduate or graduate level;
- Exceptional organizational and time‑management skills.
Experience maintaining physics equipment and other laboratory instruments.
