The Institute’s impact expands beyond its 25-acre residential campus in Brooklyn to cutting-edge facilities throughout the borough, a landmark building and public gallery in Manhattan, as well as an extension campus, Pratt Munson College of Art and Design in Utica, New York. On Governors Island, Pratt is a core partner on the Stony Brook University team selected to develop the New York Climate Exchange, a research and educational hub poised to establish New York City as the global leader for the most pressing issue of our time: climate change.

Another extension of Pratt’s campus is the Research Yard, a 20,000-square-foot facility that brings together the research activities of Pratt Institute under one roof in the Brooklyn Navy Yard (BNY).

The Department of the History of Art and Design at Pratt Institute (both Brooklyn and Manhattan Campuses), is creating a pool of part-time faculty applicants for the Fall 2026 semester to teach in the following areas:

• Art History Survey Courses (Ancient to Medieval; Renaissance to Modern/Contemporary)
• History of Design Survey Courses (History of Interior Design, History of Industrial Design, History of Communications Design)
• Asian Art
• African Art
• Latin American/Pre-Columbian Art
• New Media

Devoted to a creative learning community, Pratt recognizes the strength that stems from a diversity of perspectives, ideas, backgrounds, approaches, and experiences. We aspire to continue to grow as a place that always welcomes and encourages individuals of all backgrounds to contribute to and be part of Pratt culture.

• Teach part-time courses in Art History or Design History, covering areas such as Ancient to Medieval, Renaissance to Modern/Contemporary Art, or the History of Interior, Industrial, and Communications Design at both the Brooklyn and Manhattan campuses.
• Engage with a diverse student body by fostering an inclusive learning environment, leveraging expertise in specialized areas such as Asian Art, African Art, Latin American/Pre-Columbian Art, or New Media, while promoting the values of Pratt’s creative learning community.

Art History Survey Courses: we require that candidates have an MA in the History of Art or the History of Design; ABD or PhD, and teaching experience beyond the TA level is preferred.
History of Design Survey Courses
: we require that candidates have an MA in the History of Design or the History of Art; ABD or PhD, and teaching experience beyond the TA level is preferred.
Asian Art, African Art, Latin American/Pre-Columbian Art, New Media: we require that candidates be at least ABD, PhD and teaching experience are preferred.
Pay Rate: $1,800 - $1,950 per contact hour
