The School of the Art+Design at SUNY Purchase seeks candidates for the position of Photography Instructional Support Manager (SL3) beginning in Fall 2026. The successful candidate will be a flexible, inquisitive, personable and reliable individual, able to be productive within an educational setting and fluent in a broad range of traditional and contemporary photography processes and techniques. The Photography Department serves all A+D first-year students, Photography BFA , Photography Interdisciplinary BFA , Photography Concentration BSVA , and electives for all A+D majors and graduate students.

The Photography Instructional Support Manager works to assure the safety and accessibility of space, equipment, and materials for these students and the faculty. Under their charge is the management of facilities spread over two floors: traditional darkroom, non-silver darkroom, photography studio, digital lab, galleries, tech spaces, equipment storage, classrooms, and junior and senior studio spaces. They partner with faculty to support the curriculum, advise on best practices, and stay current with advances in the field.

The essential function of the Photography Instructional Support Specialist is to manage all photography facilities and support the teaching, learning, creation, and presentation of lens-based art within the professional studio programs in a manner that is both safe and accessible to students and faculty. Duties include account management, procurement, inventory control of materials, supplies and equipment, maintaining facilities including calibration and repairs of both analog and digital equipment, planning for facilities upgrades, supervising paid and for-credit student workers, and supporting students and faculty working within the area.

Working with a team of instructional staff supporting academic programs in the School of Art+Design, they will also interface with other areas of study within the that rely on the Photo facilities, processes, and equipment supported by this position and may be called upon to provide demonstrations and lessons for safe use of photography. The position reports to the Operations Manager of the School of Art+Design.

This is full-time job, requiring five full days on campus.

Under their charge is the management of facilities spread over two floors: traditional darkroom, non-silver darkroom, photography studio, digital lab, galleries, tech spaces, equipment storage, classrooms, and junior and senior studio spaces. They partner with faculty to support the curriculum, advise on best practices, and stay current with advances in the field.

They support learning by providing a safe and organized communal shop where students make their work.
